CBM Offers Fellowship Programme for Ophthalmologists from Ukraine

Fellows are expected to bring their acquired knowledge and skills back to Ukraine.

CBM is partnering with the International Ophthalmological Fellowship Foundation (IOFF) to offer a fellowship programme for ophthalmologists from Ukraine.

CBM and IOFF invite young ophthalmologists to apply for the fellowship in vitreoretina or oculoplastics. The duration of the fellowship is three months.

Fellows will be placed for observership in host centres of the IOFF - mainly university eye clinics - in Germany or another country of the Schengen area.

Suitable candidates must: 

  • Be from Ukraine and be committed to returning to Ukraine to care for patients
  • Hold a specialist degree in ophthalmology.
  • Have completed the residency training
  • Preferably come from a teaching and/or public service background
  • Female ophthalmologists are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Speak fluent German or English.

Fellows are expected to bring their acquired knowledge and skills back to Ukraine. The aim is to help meet medical emergencies caused by the war.

The three-month fellowship includes:

  • A scholarship stipend of max. 5000 EURO to cover the costs of the roundtrip journey and student living in the host city in Germany or another country of the Schengen area.
  • The IOFF will help refer the IOFF-CBM Fellows for observerships in IOFF host centres (mainly university eye clinics ) in Germany or another country of the Schengen area.

Additionally;

  • IOFF-CBM Fellows arrange for visa and accommodation in the host city. For Germany, citizens from Ukraine currently do not need a visa.
  • IOFF-CBM Fellows bring a (travel) insurance certificate to cover possible medical emergencies during their stay.
  • There is no curriculum to fulfil, but the individual and recurring questions of the fellow in the subspecialty should be answered.
  • IOFF will make the transfer of funds once all arrangements for the fellowship have been completed.
