CBM reached more people with treatment for neglected diseases in 2023: How we did it

CBM announces the release of our 2024 Neglected Tropical Disease (NTD) Annual Report. The report was released at the 2024 Neglected Tropical Disease NGO Network NNN Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

This report provides a snapshot of our 2023 programme activities and highlights the innovative approaches we have used in our collaborative efforts to eliminate NTDs.

Our work included elimination efforts against the five Preventive Chemotherapy PC-NTDs in seven countries: Burundi, the Central African Republic (CAR), the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Ethiopia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and South Sudan.

In 2023, we reached 54.1 million community members with 88.7 million doses of preventive chemotherapeutic medicines.

We also supported 10,800 surgeries for advanced trachoma, restoring sight and dignity to those affected by this painful condition. Additionally, we continued to invest in sustainable solutions by supporting the training of 80,400 people, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to support their communities in the fight against NTDs.

Water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) remain critical components of disease prevention. In 2023, we helped build 18,000 latrines, providing safe and hygienic facilities that will have a lasting impact on public health.

We are also delighted to support Pakistan and Burundi in developing their dossiers on trachoma elimination, a crucial step towards its successful elimination.

These achievements are a testament to the dedication and hard work of our partners, staff, and donors, including the END Fund, Sightsavers, and ARISE, who have tirelessly worked to bring us closer to a world free from the burden of NTDs.
